While visiting Liberty, we found in the LG floor a corner of Murdock London.

It's the first time we learned about the concept.

What to say about it ?

A place where you're back in time with a service and products that your Gran'Pa was used to.

Good range of products (they even have Pino Silvestre), very friendly, professional and helpful staff.

I had my bear done (before a meeting) and the result was relaxing and perfect !

The kind of service I would realy like to see more often.

LONDON

Last week we've spend some days in London.

We love this City(or should I say Country).

London is so big and have so many differents cultures that it's like you're visiting a country from one side to the other.

We made some shopping and shops visiting during our stay.

Here's the listing :

Albam at Shoreditch : nice selection and very friendly staff.

Barbour at Shoreditch : nice stuff but too commercial and what a pitty : we didn't found one piece that was still made in England.....

D.S Dundee : small shop with a nice selection of good quality.

Y.M.C : nice but quite expensive.

Grenson at Shoreditch : nice shoes but most of them doesn't seems to be made in England but more probably in India......

Number 6 : nice selection but you feel the "streetwear" background of the owner.

Son of a Stag : beautiful denim selection altough there's some brands I don't understand beeing there.

Present : very nice shop and selection, friendly staff : to recommend !

Three Threads : a little too streetwear for us with an English taste.

Dover Street Market : you MUST have a huge budget to buy there but don't go there to buy (unless you have this budget), go there to see and get inspired : beautiful.

Folk : becoming too "intelectual"....

Liberty of London : we are not department stores fans but Liberty is THE shop you have to visit while in London.

What a selection !!!!

From perfums to home decoration, from menswear to accessories : we never saw a so nice selection.

Of course, all what you have there can be found in other places but the way it's presented, the choice of the brands, of the labels, of the pieces : the nicest shop we have seen for a long time !!!!!!

In terms of hotels, we were the first days at the Town Hall Hotel.

The hotel isn't located in the center but 7 minutes away with the Underground.

A beautiful building that was transformed in a nice and modern hotel.

The staff is very friendly and helpful : to recommend strongly.

The days after, we were in the Sanderson.

Located in between Oxford Circus and Tottenham, the hotel have a great location.

Much more "hype" this hotel have great rooms and a nice bar/restaurant.

The breakfast have a large and quality choice.

More expensive but worth it !

For restaurants, there's so much good restaurants in London; we were at the Trishna, a real indian restaurant, very clean with a huge wine carte : perfect !

We also tried an iberic one named  Eyre Brothers : great food, nice crew, good music : love it !

We just found out a new shoelace brand that we realy like : Pilipiment.

It's a french brand so as most of the times there's no english link but you don't have to be a genious to understand the colors and the prices (5€ each).

We find this idea to "custumize" your shoes with colored lace quite cool.

No matter if you put on Tricker's, Alden or Church's you give them a little "funky" twist just by changing the color of the lace.

The "plus" of those shoelace : they are Made in France !

During last Paris Fashion Fair we've found a new small French label "Cuisse de Grenouille".

With a name like that the brand could ONLY be French !

Means : Frogs Legs.....

The brand built his image on accessories (ties, belts, .....) and swimshorts.

All the production is Made in Europe (Italy, Portugal, France,....).

The brand have a fresh and nice look (kind of prepy but not in the serious way) with lots of colors.

Waiting for next summer to have them....

A while ago we had the chance to meet two brothers who started again the shirt business of their Grand Father.

The Jack Stuart Company started in 1971.

They were specialized in high quality men's shirts.

They had a patent wich was a double hidden pocket were you could put your credit card.

Called "The Card Holder Shirt".

Today the two brothers are using the Family know how and the best fabrics to creat great shirts.

The first delivery will be in January 2012.

For the moment they have a website but that is much a kind of "inspiration blog".

Today I was at the show room of Nudie Jeans in Antwerpen and between a nice talk and placing an order,  I found on the desk of Mischa (Nudie agent) The Travel Almanac.

That's the first time I saw the magazine and learn about it !

What a nice magazine !

Finally something else; something that you want to read from the first page till the last one.

A magazine that want you to meet all the people you read about in it and that make you travel without moving.

PIN-UP GIRLS

A pin-up girl, also known as a pin-up model, is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as popular culture. 

Pin-up girls may be glamour models, fashion models, and actresses.

The term pin-up may also refer to drawings, paintings, and  other illustrations done in emulation of these photos (check out Vargas). 

The term  was first attested to in English in 1941 ,however, the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s.

The pin-up images could be cut out of magazines  or newspapers,  or be from postcard or chromo-lithographs,  and so on. 

Such photos often appear on calendars, which are meant to be  pinned up anyway. Later, posters of pin-up girls were mass-produced. They  became an instant hit.

Many pin-ups were photografs of celebrities  who were considered sex symbols. 

One of the most popular early pin-up  girls was Betty Grable. 

Her poster was ubiquitous in the  lockers of G.I.'s during WWII. Other pin-ups were artwork, often depicting idealized  versions of what some thought a particularly beautiful or attractive  woman should look like. 

An early example of the latter type was the Gibson girl, drawn by Charles Dana Gibson.

The genre also gave rise to  several well-known artists specializing in the field, including Alberto vargas, Gil Elvgren, and numerous notable artists,  such as Art Frahm.

Notable contemporary pin-up artists include Elias Chatzoudis, Armando  Huerta, and Chuck Bauman.

MOUSTACHE WAX

Moustache wax is a stiff pomade  applied to a moustache as a grooming aid to hold the hairs in  place, especially at the extremities.

It can also have restorative  properties, which become more important as the hair length increases. 

The wax is commonly scented and sometimes pigmented.

A simple recipe for homemade moustache wax comprises equal quantities  of beeswax  and petroleum jelly.

More sophisticated recipes may include gum arabic and a soap, scent and colouring may also be added if desired.

The key to a good mousatche wax is being firm yet yielding, stiff yet  malleable with staying power.

We have found an old recipe of moustache wax.

We went today to the grocery shop and bought all the needed ingredients.

We will try to develop it and if that's work we will let you know the way to make it.

THE VARSITY JACKET

The Varsity Jacket is a jacket traditionally worn by high school and college students in the United States to represent school and team pride as well as to display personal awards earned in athletics, academics or activities.

Also known as "Letterman jackets" in some places.

The body is usually of boiled wool and the sleeves of leather with banded wrists and waistband.

Varsity jackets are usually produced in the school colors with the body of the jacket in the school's primary color and sleeves in the secondary color.

They usually feature a banded collar for men or a hood for women.

The Varsity jacket derives its name from the varsity letter chenille patch on its left breast, which is almost always the first letter or initials of the high school or college the jacket came from.

The name of the owner usually appears either in chenille (matching the letter) or is embroidered on the jacket itself.

The owner's graduation year usually appears in matching chenille.

Placement of the name and year of graduation depends on school tradition.

The year is most often sewn on the right sleeve or just above the right pocket.

Lettermen who play on a championship team often receive a large patch commemorating their championship that is worn on the back of the jacket.

Lettermen who participate in a sport in which medals are awarded often sew the medals onto their jackets to display their accomplishments.

THE BEAUTY OF AFGHANISTAN !

I received yesterday some beautifuls pics from Afghanistan.

More than one year ago, I've met a guy name Mahmood who came to visit our shop.

We started to talk and he explained me that he will go to Afghanistan to try to bring young Afghan Entrepreneurs in contact with the Western World.

The idea was full of hope and Humanity !

After he bought some Dockers K1 to bring with him to Afghanistan, I've asked him if he could send me some pics from Afghanistan.

He kept his word and I realy appreciat the pictures.

They show another face of Afghanistan that we don't have in mind !

A beautiful and peaceful Country.

We can just hope that Time for Peace will come in this beautiful Country !

Yesterday I've met an Artist that I know for a long time.

It's almost 3 years that I haven't seen him, too much work and just forgot to follow him...

When he started he wanted to work with magazines, after checking his works yesterday, I can say that he realy succeed in what he wanted to do.

The works he create are realy strong.

The magazines he use are turn to beautiful Art Work with a kind of Pop Art touch.

SUPRA-QUINTESSENCE COLLECTION / MANIFESTO

It's been a long time since we started thinking about making our own collection.

Today, after monthes of hard labor, we get to the end.

For next season we will be proud to present you our own collection.

This collection will only be sold in our boutique or via our website.

The idea of producing our own collection is the result of our way of thinking and of the Supra-Quintessence Concept.

In our boutique, we only work with brands/products produce in Europe, Japan and the US (we try to avoid as much as possible the "Made in China" labels).

The Supra-Quintessence Collection is based on the same philosophy.

All the products we will offer are produce in Europe.

The European textil industry was strong till the mid 80'.

From the early 90' Asia took over the European production.

Most of the European manufactures closed down or were relocalized in Asia.

Today, there's still a good "knowhow" in Europe but that will disappear if we won't use it !

We have decided to make our production in small work-shops all over Europe.

We have choosen each one of them for the quality of them work and for the field they were specialized in.

For an example : our shirts are produce by hand in a Napolitan work-shop where they have more than 60 years experience in that field.

Again, the philosophy is the same for the fabrics.

All the fabrics we use are produced in Europe (most of them in Italy and England), except for the denim that is produce in Japan !

We think that producing today in Europe is not an impossible mission.

Most of the companies producing in Asia just do it for the benefits they could get from producing cheaper.

But are they thinking about the human rights, the children labors and the ecology ?

Of course, when you have some "old" US or British labels that offer you "an heritage shirt" at 90€ you find that great.

But is it still so great when we know that this same shirt was produced in China for a cost of 14$FOB and that the manufacture who have produced it doesn't care at all about children labors and ecology ???

So that's the reason why we decided to offer a collection made with the best fabrics we can find, in the best European work-shops.

As there's no agents or reps in between us and the manufactures, the prices are going to be as low as an asian products but with a Great Quality !

FIRENZE HERE WE ARE

The Pitti Uomo Fair is always a great moment for the people working in the fashion industry.

It's one of the first fair of the season and we can feel the trends that will come in the near future.

It's a also a great fair because of it's location, Firenze, one of the nicest city in Italy with beautiful people, great food and a cool atmosphere.

We stayed at the "Home Hotel".

I realy don't like this hotel.

On the website it's look ok but when you are there.....

It's located 15 minutes walk from city center and the location is horrible !

The hotel is one a square surrended by the road getting to and out of Firenze.

As the soundproofing is very bad you will imagine the rest.....

The rooms are small and the bathroom are even smaller than a toilette in a regular hotel....

There's a wi-fi in the hotel but works an hour or two per day.....

They have 4 stars and it's quite expensive.

Just forget about it.....

In terms of restaurants, there's some very good places in Firenze.

Starting with Gaston e, a modern restaurant using toscans ingredients but in a "nouvelle cuisine"; good food and great service, to recommend !

If you are more for a typical kind of restaurant, try Sostanza Troia.

This is an old butchery converted in a restaurant by the butchery owners.

Small, but very typical and very good food.

Much a kind of "cantine" than a restaurant but great.

For the ones who want to have good fish dishes, try the Fuor d'acqua, it's located on the other side of the Arno (much more quite) and they have the best fish in town.

Don't forget to reserve.

The shopping in Firenze is also a magic moment (not for your credit card....).

If I have to give you a few names, go for :

Gerard Loft : always a nice selection for men and women.

Flow : the brother of the owner of "Gerard Loft" have open his own shop; not to be missed !

Milord : a very classic selection but with an italian twist. A nice selection of Tricker's, Santoni and Boglioli.

WP Store : the new store of the WP Group with all the brands they have (Save the Khaki, Barbour, Woolrich, Blunstone) and a selection of other brands like Engineered Garments, Mark McNairy and others.

Santa Maria Novella : the great perfums of SM.

BACK TO THE OFFICE

After two monthes being out of the office we're back.

We made a big european trip preparing the next season.

Sorry to all of you to whom we didn't answer mails but it will come shortly !

As we were all that time out in hotels and eating in restaurants, we thought it will be nice if we will give you some goods addresses we went to (summer holiday start next week).

We will start with Greece and the region of Halkidiki.

We were in a small village name Vourvourou.

The village is on the sea and there's a beautiful view.

The village have nothing special and isn't so nice but you have a nice hotel name "Ekies All Senses Resort".

For the view, the relaxing spot and the nice lofts they rent it's worth going there !

After this spot, we went to Italy in the Südtyrol.

For those of you who don't know, it's near to the Austrian border and you already think you are in Austria.....

Everything is written in Austrian, the names are kind of Austrian and they speak Austrian....

Anyway, to be honest with you, we were in one of the nicest hotel I ever been !!!

It's located in a village name Lana on a mountain at 1600M.

The hotel name "Vigilius" is a eco-hotel.

The design is very pure and the service is perfect.

On top of all, imagine yourself waking up in the middle of the clouds !!!

If there's one destination I will suggest it's that one.

We had to be in Barcelona where we spend a week.

We stayed in the "Grand Hotel Central".

If you are searching an hotel with a great location (in the middle of the city), that's the one.

BUT : I don't understand how they get the 5 stars ?

The design is nice but the service is very bad.

We had to wait more than 35 minutes before they came to take our order in the restaurant of the hotel (just 3 tables were busy,

we came back to the hotel at 16h00 and our rooms were still not made, and others....

They have a nice roof with a bar and a pool but it's realy too small for such a big hotel.

People are walking one each others just to try to find a place to seat and enjoy the sun and the view...

NOT TO RECOMMEND !

After some days we moved to the "Miramar" hotel.

The hotel is located on the Montjuïc wich is not in the middle of the city and offer a view on the Barcelona Pier.

It's a kind of "chain hotel" but the rooms are quite big and well equiped, clean, the staff try to do them best and they have a pool surounded by a nice garden.

In terms of value/money that's a good spot.

During our stay in Barcelona, we were realy disappointed by two restaurants we used to go.

The first one is Catalania Tapas.

It use to be a very good tapas bar but I think that due to the succes, it just became a tapas manufacture for tourists !

The second one is Los Caracoles.

A kind of Catalan brasserie that had for long time good food.

Today it's just a tourists catcher with fake Catalan musicians and very bad food !!!!

The one that stay Top Notch is Cal Pep !

It's a real Catalan tapas bar with fresh fish and sea food (also meat for the ones who love that).

But just keep in mind that it's a bar with 22 seats and that if you want to go and eat there, you will have to make a queue of +/- one hour.... 

We also found a shop name La Commercial.

That have a hugh selection of Paul Smith stuff (wich is realy not our cup of tea) but they have a very nice selection of silver rings and perfums (Byredo and lots of others).

From Barcelona we went to Firenze but that will be for tomorrow...

NORTH SEA CLOTHING

A week ago we were contacted by the Guys from North Sea Clothing.

We knew this brand for a while but just didn't thought about for Supra-Quintessence.

Not that we didn't liked it but too many things to do and just "forgot" it !

It was a nice surprise that they have contacted us cause we MUST have this brand in our selection !

It's realy the kind of brand that we like : not following a trend, not trying to be fashionable.

Everything is in the products details and quality.

Hope to receive them for July......

IL BUSSETTO

We have received some month ago the Il "Bussetto" coin pouches.

Il “Bussetto” is specialised in the production and distribution of small leather goods.

The Il "Bussetto" craftsmen still use an ancient Italian technique which allows the creation of complex objects without using any kind of seams.

The products are completely hand made and the time required to create them is very long; they have decided to follow the tradition because they think that the high quality and the originality of our products are the points of strength and of distinction of the brand.

Some days ago we've received the Seventy Eight Percent Bags.

The first think we said after opening the box was : WAOUH !

That's unbelievable : those bags are beautiful and have a top-notch quality.

The Seventy Eight Percent Bags are made from the best Japanese canvas and from natural leather coming from Italy.

Those bags have a beautiful design (quite modern) but remind me somehow the old canvas bags of our Grandfathers.

Like Seventy Eight Percent like to describe the bags : " a modern twist on the old-fashioned school satchel".

We all know the Calabrese Brand for the Bags and the silk ties they produce.

We received today a nice surprise from Calabrese : they started to produce swimshorts.

The swimshorts are produce for adults and kids and they called the line : Me as Daddy !

The fabric is made in Italy from exclusives prints and as all the rest of the Calabrese collection, the swimshorts are Made by hand in Italy !

We have ordered some and we hope they will be soon available on our web boutique.

CHAPAL

Two days ago I had the chance to discover pieces from Chapal.

Chapal is a French brand that was founded in 1832.

Since then, they are specialized in sheepskin jackets and accessories.

In 1982, Mr. Bardinon took the control of the company.

Is aim was to rebuilt the glory of the past by producing pieces in small quantities, with the highest qualities and with a tribut to the archives of Chapal.

When we see today the collection, I think that we could say that he has achieve his goal : the collection is beautiful !

Only the best fabrics are used in the production, most of the pieces are hand made and most of the pieces are still made in La Creuse (France).

THE DUFFLE COAT - A BELGIAN PRIDE

Yes, you've readed well the title : A Belgian Pride !!!!

Perhaps our British Friends won't be happy to read it but the Duffle Coat wasn't invented in England but in Belgium !

The Duffel Coat was created during the 19 century in a town named "Duffel" in the province of Antwerp.

The coat was used by farmers who wanted something heavy that won't let the wind and the rain disturbe their work.

The Duffle Coat was made from Duffel, a coarse, thick, woollen material.

When Field Marshal Montgomery came to Belgium, he found that coat in the province of Antwerp and took it back to England.

As it was a good wind and rain stopper he decided to dress the British Royal Navy with it.

That's true that the duffle coat owes its popularity to the British Royal Navy.

Field Marshal Montgomery was a famous wearer of the coat, as a means of identifying himself with his troops, leading to another nickname, "Monty coat".

Large stocks of post-war military surplus coats available at reasonable prices to the general public meant that these coats became a ubiquitous and popular item of clothing in the 1950s and 1960s.

The British firm Gloverall purchased surplus military supply of coats after World War II and have continued to still make the Monty ever since and in 1954 started producing their own version of the Duffle Coat and continue to do so today still being Made In England.

Gloverall made in the 50's what is known as todays Duffle by using leather fastenings and Buffalo horn toggles with a double faced checkback fabric.

Today there's only one company left that still produce the Duffel Coat in Belgium : St. James !

That's not often that we talk about a women collection.
But this time, when we found out about G-1, we couldn't not talk about it !

G-1 is a californian collection developped by Yonaah Shoji.
He have a 20 years experience in creating casual lines for beauties of all ages.

What we love about G1 is that they've taken these menswear staples into the realm of womenswear by preserving their essence, but reducing them into cleaner designs and sharply tailored fits.

Even their military-inspired garments have a relaxed but slender appearance. By trimming down the silhouettes, they make the clothing even more flattering and comfortable for women.

We don't have womenswear in our selection but that's the kind of brand we would like our Girlsfriend to wear !!!

Two years ago we have found at G. Loft in Firenze a new italian brand named "Sportswear Reg.".

The brand was created in 2008 by two great guys (Andrea & Micro) who are real "vintage fanatics".

The brand takes it's insparation from the US way of life going from the 30' till the 60' with a predilaction for the Army and the colleges world.

They put a great attention in details and quality and all the pieces are made in Italy.

"Col Claudine" is the french name for the "Peter Pan Collar".

As far as we have searched, the "Peter Pan Collar" is very similar to the "Club Collar".
The only difference is that the "Peter Pan Collar" was made for dresses and women shirts and that the "Club Collar" is the men answer to it.

The "Peter Pan Collar" is a small, flat, round-cornered collar without a stand, popular for women's and children's clothing in the early- and mid-20th century. "Peter Pan Collars" are a popular collar style for younger children. The rounded Peter Pan collars are generally but not always worn without ties or bows.

What's funny about it is that for men, a Club Collar looks really nice with a tie or a bow.

Each season, we find here and there some Club Collar Shirts in a few collections but it never became a real "trend".

We can just hope to see more and more Club Collar Shirts in collection as here at Supra-Quintessence we are Fans !

The bow tie originated among Croatian mercenaries during the Prussian wars of the 17th century: the Croat mercenaries used a scarf around the neck to hold together the opening of their shirts. This was soon adopted (under the name cravat, derived from the French for "Croat") by the upper classes in France, then a leader in fashion, and flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Here's another brand I wanted to check for a long time and that was showing at the Pitti : Camo.

The brand was created in 2007 by Stefano Ughetti.

The brand takes inspiration in the rural Italy and goes back to the time when farmers were wearing the nicest garments they could have to go to the church on Sunday.

All the fabrics they use for the production are made in Italy and all the garments are produced in Italy !

We hope to carry a selection of Camo for next winter.

Two weeks ago, the city I'm living decided to put two huge Sumo in a Square located 500M from my place.

Today passing by, I had to stop and take some pictures : the view was magic !

Some weeks ago we received a new delivery from Denim Addikt.

They have made a back pocket wallet in Natural Leather and japanese Red Selvage Denim.

As always with Denim Addikt, the wallets are made by hand in Belgium.

I took one for myself and it's now around 3 weeks that I'm using it.

You can see the results in the pictures here above : as much as I will use it and as much he will get older, the nicer he will get !

As they only use non treated Natural Leather, the leather gets a beautiful "patina" by touching it.

I'm using it with a Triple Works Raw Denim and you can see the indigo color getting on the wallet.

I will use it as much as I can to see the result when he will be really "used" !

L'ANTICA PIZZERIA DA MICHELE

While I was in Napoli, I went to eat a pizza (that's the place to eat a pizza.....) at "L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele".

The pizza's are one of the best in the world !

The Pizzeria was founded in 1870 by the Condurro Family.

Michele Condurro, son of Salvatore, perfected the family art of pizza making, whose secrets he had learned from the famous masters in Torre Annunziata who were experts in the preparing and kneading of pizza dough, and the cooking of pizza.

Michele opened his first pizzaria in 1906 at the present site of Ascalesi Hospital, whose construction forced the pizzeria to move. In 1930, the pizzeria was transferred to its present location on Via Cesare Sersale, which has often been described by experts and journalists as “the sacred temple of pizza”.

Since then, five generations of master pizza makers have carried on the work of the founder, respecting the tradition and being faithful to Michele’s instructions: there are only two types of Neapolitan Pizza, the “Marinara” and the “Margherita”; and no “junk” should be used in making the pizza that could alter its world famous genuineness and taste.

If you have the chance to get there, just ask for a "normal" size (enough for two....) and just enjoy this feeling of beeing back in the 60's.

I had the chance 3 weeks ago to visit the Calabrese Cravatte workshop in Napoli.

The Calabrese Company was founded by Eugenio Calabrese in 1920.

He started his company with high quality silk ties production.

Later on, his son, Gaetano, introduced the production of high quality canvas and leather bags.

Today, it's the IVth generation of the Family that continue the tradition of producing very high quality silk ties and bags.

The workshop is still located in the center of Napoli (near the train station) and all the Calabrese products are still made there !

HOWLIN BY MORRISON TIES

Ten month ago we already wrote about Howlin By Morrison.

It's now one month that we have received the products of Howlin By Morrison and they're just perfect !

There's one item I'm quite "fan of" is the knited tie.
Usually I'm not wearing ties but when I saw the ones from Howlin By Morrison, I was quite surprise !
Wearing one of them doesn't gives you that "strict" look but a nice preppy/relax look !

THE FLAT CAPS

The flat cap is a rounded men's cap with a small stiff brim in front. Cloths used to make the cap range from Original Wool, tweed (most common) to cotton driving caps for summer wear, sometimes featuring air vents. Less common materials may include leather, but they are still very popular today especially in Northeastern and midwest cities where there is a strong Irish and Scottish presence. Cord flat caps are also worn in various colors.

The inside of the cap is usually lined with silk for comfort and warmth. The majority of these caps may be made in China because they are about 1/2 the cost of those made in America, but they are still made very well.

Today with the revival of the flat caps, there's a large offer on the market coming out from brands like Goorin Bros., Kangol, Stetson and others......

We have opted for Brixton and Dockers flat caps.Brixton made great flat caps (although made in China) and Dockers bring a good quality/value (as usual....).From February 2011 we will also carry a British brand of flat caps wich have an experience of more than 100 years.......

DOCKERS HARRINGTON JACKET

The Harrington jacket is a lightweight waist-length jacket, made of cotton, polyester, wool or suede — usually with traditionally Fraser tartan or check-patterned lining.

The first Harrington-style jackets were made by British clothing company Baracuta in the 1930s.

This style of jacket earned the nickname Harrington because it was worn by the character Rodney Harrington (played by Ryan O'Neal) in the 1960s prime time Peyton Place.

Similar to the 1950s United States Ivy League look, the jacket became fashionable in the United Kingdom in the 1960s among mods and skinheads. They again became popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s with skinhead and mod revivalists, as well as with scooterboys.

PENFIELD STAPLETON TWEED JACKET

I remember when I was a kid (long time ago) always looking at those jackets with leather shoulder yoke my Father's American Friends were wearing.

I was 7 years old and I had no clue about what was a "brand" !

Later on, in the late 80's, a French brand "Chevignon" took inspiration of this model to creat their "Togs" jacket.

I was amazed to find back the jacket I've always wanted to have.

When I found out about the existence of Penfield, I was a bit frustrated not having bought "The Original" one.

With the revival of the Authentics and Originals Brands, I took my revenge
and bought a Penfield Stapleton jacket.

Instead of buying it in a regular color, I went for tweed version wich give her a kind of outdoor/elegant look.

Of course, the quality is perfect and the details are great.
I'm living in Belgium (where it's always cold and grey weather) and that's the kind of jacket I can use almost for 8 month per year !

But today that's part of the Past and the denim industry in Italy is very boring (sorry but we are not fans of the "fashion" italians denim brands)..........

During the Pitti in Firenze, we found a nice boots company :

R.M. Williams.

The company was founded in 1932 by Reginald Murray Williams.

He was born in South Australia. As he grew up he moved and travelled a lot with his family. He loved the bush and its people and was taught many skills from them. 1929 he returned to Adelaide. 1931 he made his first boot out of just one piece of leather. RM was the bush outfitter - the supplier of anything and everything that was essential to Australian life. 1978 R.M.Williams opened its own retail stores- the bush had moved to the city. When RM made his first stockmans riding boots in 1931 he devised the pattern that endures to the present day. Using one piece of leather for the upper produces the clean, classic lines that make an R.M. boot stand out in the crowd.

Each pair of RM boots undergoes 80 handheld processes. You can have them resoled, reheeled and relasted as well as new lining and new elastics. In fact everything in the boot might be new except for the upper leather.

We found the Men's File some month ago.
We tried to get it in our store as we thought (and we still think) it's one of the best men magazine we ever saw.

We didn't had any answer for some month when, BINGO, we received a mail from MF explaining that they had a huge mailbox problem.
We were quite happy, not that they had a mailbox problem, but that we will finally carry the Men's File in our selection.

Just two weeks more to wait and the N°3 will be available at Denim Addikt.

DOCKERS K1

Levi Strauss & Co. Introduced the Dockers Brand in 1986.
The aim was to creat a Khaki brand.

After 24 years, Dockers started to produce Khaki's replica of the US Army under the name of K1.
The K1 line is based on limited editions of maximum 1000pcs per model.
They focuse on details and quality.

The last edition is made in San fransisco with Cramerton material !!!

With the Chino's "revival" and with all the new brands trying to have an "historical" legitimity the best value/money stays the Dockers K1.

We received yesterday a delivery from Iron Heart Indigo 21oz. Straight Cut Selvedge denim (thanks Giles).

Those jeans are the strongest in the world !!!!!

We already had some heavy jeans in our selection but so heavy, never.

That's the kind of jeans that you will buy and still wear them in 10 years.

Whenever you buy such a jeans, it's a long term investment.

Everybody should have such a jeans in his wardrobe !

SAINT JAMES

The SAINT-JAMES Company has been established in Lower Normandy, in the commune of Saint-James, close to Mont Saint-Michel, since 1889.

Its fame is based upon a cult item of clothing "the genuine pure new knitted woolen Breton seaman's sweater". Originally intended for deep sea fishermen.

Around 1850, Saint-James, a commune in Lower Normandy, located 20 kilometers from Mont Saint-Michel experienced a real industrial adventure.
The Legallais family started to spin and dye locally produced wool. This was then resold as skeins and balls of wool to the haberdasheries of Brittany and Normandy, later as underwear : real woolen shirts which gave birth to the fisherman's sweater.

It was the Mayor of Saint-James, Léon LEGALLAIS, who transformed a workshop into a real industry.

Today, Saint James still supply the National French Navy and it's quality remain the same.

With Bass Weejun penny loafers you never had to worry about leaving the house without a coin to your name. You could always just tuck one into your shoe.

The G.H. Bass shoe company was founded in 1876 by George Henry Bass. In 1910 he introduced the camp Mocc, an elegant, comfortable moccasin that was an alternative to the hard dress shoe. Then, in 1936, came the Weejun penny loafer, another classic addition to footware.

The Weejun was an instant hit, and the entire family could embrace this symbol of status and sophisticated leisure. The name of this leather slip-on was derived from the word “Norweigian”, the ethnicity of its founder. The shoes were also referred to as penny loafers, due to the half-pocket on the front where a penny or other coin could be slipped. You could carry a penny for good luck, or, as girls in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s did, carry a dime to make an emergency phone call in case a date got a little too fresh.

It's all started in 1899 when Hyman Moscot arrived to New York and started selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street on Manhattan's famed Lower East Side.
Today Moscot is still on Orchard Street and continue to offer a great selection of vintage inspired glasses.
If you have the chance to get there, you will be amazed by the look of the store (out of time) and by the selection they offer.
Try to be served by Marylin ; she will do her best to get you the perfect glasses you waited for !

Morrison - Howlin

Here's some pictures that I took from the Morrison - Howlin stand at the B&B Berlin.
Morrison is a Belgian knitwear company established in 1981.
They put a great attention in the quality of the products (each product is made in the Scottish highlands).
Today, the sons have join the family business and have introduce a new label named "Howlin".
You will find a selection of the Morrison - Howlin products at Denim Addikt store from August 2010.

Here's a great new brand coming out NYC.
They have great prints and all the prints are made in NYC "à la minutes" in their own workshop.
The details on the packaging are realy nice.
They started with tees and tote bags but on next season will be added sweats, hoodies and others.
As we realy loved CXXVI, we took the distribution for the Benelux.
